STUDIO ED - "Making Sound Things Better"
In our 25 years of experience in the recording business we have learned one immutable truth; studios don't make recordings..., musicians do! As you dive fearlessly headfirst into the abyss of expanding technology, firm in your belief that you're just one piece of gear away from sounding like someone else, you are suddenly attacked by the voices of your peers! Like the Sirens, they draw you in with tales of proprietary software programs, digital amp simulators, and pristine pitch correction. Just as you're about to fall prey to their beautiful song, "Remember the old days?...2 inch analog man, 2 inch analog... that's the sound man, that's the sound."
These mantras shall be chanted into eternity that the best two pieces of technology are the newest one on the market and the oldest one you can still get your hands on. To all of this we say; step outside of the riddle and know this: At the end of the day, it either sounds good or it doesn't. We are into sound and we love things that sound good so we built our rooms around our philosophy. Let a great sounding instrument sound like it sounds... capture that, and you've got something worth listening to.
This is not only our "sound" philosophy but our competitive edge. We offer a high quality alternative to the thousands of home studios in Nashville that don't have space for things like live drums, a grand piano, or a full string section. At the same time we compete with the big budget Music Row rooms by locating in East Nashville where the price per square foot is much more reasonable.
Because of years of sweat equity, we also are thankfully free of the mountain of debt that the big rooms have to pass on to someone. Our format is primarily ADAT or Hard Disk utilizing the fully automated Yamaha O2r digital Console. Although we also have DA-88s as well as every analog multi-track we ever owned for archive source material. (We can't seem to let go of anything) Speaking of which, we also have back-up copies of every recording session we've ever done. Good news for any client who plans to stay in this business for a while.
Our pride and joy is a K.Kawai RX-5 Grand Piano hand picked with the assistance of some of Nashville's top session pianists. Many a client has landed at Studio Ed for the piano alone. In fact, Artifex records has recorded an entire series of solo piano works on K. In addition to a nice assortment of tube pre-amps and microphones by AKG, Audio-Technica, Audix, and RODE, we have access to any special piece you may require through years of relationship building (oh yeah, and an account at Dreamhire).
Because of our "sound" philosophy, we have become primarily known as "the guys who do everything else." Meaning everything outside of the standard Country Song Demo business. While it's true we do a great many classical (Stanley Yates, Bach Cello Suites in association with Mel Bay Publications, Sharon Mabry, Mezzo Soprano, The Nashville Symphony Chorus, etc...), Jazz (Titan Hot Seven Dixieland, Modern Jazz Tuba Project, Steve Larios, Panhandle Rag - #1 on Americana Charts, etc...), and Sound Design projects (Fiesta Texas, Six Flags, Lego Land, "Alabama" Theatre, Nashville Shakespeare Festival, etc.); We do our fair share of the "standard" Nashville fare.
We've recorded stars before they were stars (Trisha), stars after the big time (Lacy J.) and stars you've not yet heard of. One thing they all have in common... they sound great! If you sound great or know someone who does, we can help you capture it , preserve it, and spread it around. From pre-production to manufacturing, we can hold your hand or turn you loose, what-ever your needs might be. To schedule a session, get a budget estimate, or to order a free sampler CD...
